What would happen if I install 1 program onto 2 different computers or laptops?
If I install one CD program onto two different computers or laptops, will it give me any problems? My mom told me that she installed a program on one computer and when she had the same program installed on my grandma's computer, the original installation screwed up and stopped working. Plus, how many times can you install one program and is there a limit?I always thought that once you purchase something,it was completely yours and under your control. If thats what these piggishly corrupted companies are trying to do,then they shouldn't stop you from installing a program more than once.It has to be wrong in some way.I have never tried any of this before.I need a good answer.

- ============================== >> If I install one CD program onto two different computers or laptops, will it give me any problems? << It depends on the program. Since you did not disclose the program's name I have no way to know if installing one CD program onto two different computers or laptops will give you problems. >> My mom told me that she installed a program on one computer and when she had the same program installed on my grandma's computer, the original installation screwed up and stopped working. << This happens sometimes. Many software programs cannot be installed on multiple computers according to the licence agreement that you agreed to when you clicked "OK" to install the program onto your computer. >> Plus, how many times can you install one program and is there a limit? << Once again, it depends on the program. Since you did not disclose the program's name I have no way to know for sure how many times you can install it. >> I always thought that once you purchase something, it was completely yours and under your control. << This is a very common misconception regarding "licensed" software programs. You do not OWN the software program in many cases - you only pay for the right to USE it according to the stipulations in the software's licensee agreement. It is somewhat similar to when you pay a cable company for the legal right to watch cable TV programs - you do not OWN the TV programs just because you pay for the cable service every month. >> If that’s what these piggishly corrupted companies are trying to do, then they shouldn't stop you from installing a program more than once. It has to be wrong in some way. << Actually, in most cases the software companies do this so that a company or individual who obtains their software cannot copy it onto MANY computers. In many cases company's offer obtain multiple licenses at a reduced rate. Finally, not ALL software companies do this. Many, many programs CAN be installed on more than one computer. Once again, it all depends upon the license agreement. These agreements can be a bit complicated so the best thing to do to find out if installing on multiple computers is OK is to contact the software company or developer BEFORE you buy it. ==============================
- Programs that require online access to run, will quite often do what your Mom said, that is shut down the first installation when you put the program on a second computer. Again this is related to the license agreement. You are confusing apples and oranges when you make the comment " I always thought that once you purchase something,it was completely yours and under your control." You bought the right to put the program on your computer and use it, not the right to distribute free copies to others, and others would include your second, third and so on computers. If you buy an engine for your car, you can not expect to be able to put that engine into two cars at once, so why should the software company let you do that very thing with their 'engine', the software that runs the program?
