What is the different between a poetry and a poem?

I am doing a poetry slam project for the theatre class right now, but some people called it poem and others called it poetry. Is it the same thing or similar?

1. i think a poem is just one piece and poetry is everything thats what i think
2. Poetry is the genre. Poem is the individual work. Like the difference between Music and Song.
3. Poetry is sometimes the plural of poem and sometimes an adjective.
4. ill put it in sentence form: i wrote a poem fur you. I like writing poetry when im feeling down. does that help?lol
5. same thing. When you write a Poem, you are doing poetry. I belive Poetry is learning, speaking, or in the process of writing a Poem, and a Poem is when the words are finalized.
6. well the difference between them is poetry are heaps of poems and a poem is one poem!
7. Poetry can either be a collection or not (I see it as a more versatile term) whereas Poem is pretty much a singular form. Slam, is totally different my friend *^_^*
